DALLAS - Firefighters made some disturbing discoveries in a northeast Dallas apartment where a two-alarm fire began early Tuesday morning.
They say there was some “jury-rigged” wiring in the apartment, including some jumper cables hooked up to an air conditioning unit.
The fire broke out on the third floor of the Casa Verde Apartments in the 7200 block of Holly Hill around 3:30 a.m., after smoldering for several hours.
But after crews knocked down the flames, they discovered there were no working smoke detectors in the apartment.
Oncor was called out to the complex to check out the rest of the wiring and discovered more potentially dangerous problems. The company decided to shut off electricity altogether until safety issues can be addressed.
About a dozen apartments were affected by the fire and smoke or water damage.
